Joe Vickers
Street Dance Crews Teacher
Joe started dance at age six. Before training in 5 styles of street dance (Breaking, Hip-Hop, House, Locking and his favourite, Popping) he self-taught from television, movies and YouTube. In 2013 he became a founding member of a street dance crew, Shino-B, taking part in numerous public performances around the south coast and annual showcases. Joe has been teaching other Street Crews and classes for 5 years alongside earning a NVQ Activity Leadership apprenticeship and a distinction in the ADPA Level 4 Street Dance Teaching course.
Motivation to teach street dance is two-fold for Joe. Firstly, he mentors students with the same enthusiasm he taught himself so they can progress and succeed. This became especially prevalent as he taught a ‘Boy’s Programme’ encouraging male students in the female-dominated dance industry. He is also driven to learn as much about authentic street dance and its cultural aspects as possible. This is why he has learnt directly from some of the international pioneers and influencers of the genre. This includes Poppin’ Pete and Mr Wiggles (of The Electric Boogaloos), Buddha Stretch and Brooklyn Terry (of Elite Force) and Mechanikool (two time UK Popping Champion) who combined have choreographed and taught for countless household names including Micheal Jackson, Will Smith, Diana Ross, Madona, Missy Elliot, Usher, Chris Brown, and Diversity.
Joe is looking forward to developing his relationships with these street dance icons as he deepens his own creativity and explores his own teaching styles.
